On April 1, the Mayor of Bucha, Anatoliy Fedoruk, announced the good news that the Ukrainian military had liberated the city from Russian invaders on March 31. The next day, the occupiers were kicked out of the entire Kyiv oblast.
Nevertheless, the rejoicing that Ukrainians should’ve experienced at that moment was overshadowed by horror and hatred. The authorities learned that the Russians shot at least 280 civilians in Bucha. They were murdered just on the street having their hands tied, and were shot in the back of the head. Some civilians were minors.

The head of Motyzhyn village, Olha Sukhenko, her husband Ihor, and son Oleksandr, who were abducted on March 23, were found murdered and tortured. Olha’s and Oleksandr’s bodies were in a mass grave, Ihor’s — in the sewer.
The bodies of several naked women wrapped in a blanket were found near the highway 20 km away from Kyiv. The Russians tried to burn them, the Ministry of Defense of Ukraine reported.
In Irpin, Russians shot women, and then drove over them with tanks. According to the Mayor of Irpin, Oleksandr Markushyn, several hundred civilians were killed during the Russian occupation.
It would seem that after the dropped bombs on the maternity hospital and the theater in Mariupol, the Russians can no longer surprise with new atrocities. However, the massacre in Bucha and other settlements of Kyiv oblast can be named a real genocide of Ukrainians, and this is a new level of war crimes of Russia.
